Born and raised in France from an American mother and French father, Iris Wendy grew up in a 600 year old castle-like house full of artists and listening to the records of American musicians from the 60s and 70s (Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young). She started playing music at 6 years old, piano being her first instrument, and was later inspired by artists like Alela Diane, First Aid Kit and Fleet Foxes to pick up the guitar and start writing songs. At nineteen, she decided to leave everything behind but her guitar and her records and follow her passion for Americana and Folk music across the ocean to Bloomington, IN where the Folk scene welcomed her.
There she met Daniel Charlton, a Maryland native and classical guitarist who also found a home in Bloomington's folk scene after traveling across the US in a van and writing songs on his own. Also a member of this musical circle and future member of Iris's band was Austin Hoke, who calls Nashville home, studied cello in Bloomington and is an incredible composer, arranger, and songwriter.
Hailing from Chicago and attending school in Bloomington, Grace Wegener was introduced to the college town's creative scene and found her place in it singing with Austin, Daniel, and several others in various bands and recording projects. Eventually all four members became close with each other through this community, and the seeds of Anouk Asunder were planted.
After they all made their way from Bloomington to Nashville, Anouk Asunder was officially born. The band is now working on their first album Roam, which is inspired by Iris' travels and reflections, experiences and love for life, tying harmonies together and flowing on a river of intricate melodies, heartfelt lyrics and unforeseen spins.
